3 Mental Health Benefits of Fertility Yoga

Yoga is great exercise while you’re trying to conceive. Fertility Yoga is different from other kinds of yoga mostly because you move according to where you are in your cycle. 

Yoga for fertility doesn’t only have physical benefits, though. Here are 3 ways it benefits your mental health:

1. Conscious Breathing

The entire time you practice yoga, you are aware of your breath. You breathe more evenly and deeply than usual. This not only keeps you grounded in the present moment, but also activates your parasympathetic nervous system, which allows your muscles to relax and your mind to stop being hyper-vigilant for threats.

2. Body Awareness

Body awareness leads to resilience. How? When you’re aware of how your body feels, you become aware of your body’s moment-to-moment needs. When you know what you need, you can seek it. By meeting your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs, you fill your cup… meaning you can handle more of what life throws at you.

3. Permission to Rest

Fertility Yoga gives you permission to rest because there is a different yoga practice for each phase of your cycle. When you’re most energetic before ovulation, it’s a great time for a fast practice with planks and down dogs. When you’re on your period, the fertility yoga practice is more focused on resting and opening.

Getting Started with Fertility Yoga

You can modify any yoga practice, whether you’re in a studio or watching a YouTube video. Start by recognizing where you are in your cycle, and how it’s making you feel emotionally and physically. Lean into your intuition and move according to how you feel.
